AI Browser Assistant from Opera Now Available on iOS
Today, Opera revealed that its Aria AI assistant has been introduced to iOS. Initially launched on desktop in June, this addition is a result of a collaboration with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. Opera proudly states that Aria, now accessible on all significant desktop and mobile platforms, has amassed a user base of over one million on desktop and Android.
Like Microsoft’s Bing Copilot and Google’s Search Generative Experience, Aria can answer questions and react to the context of active web pages. The assistant leverages OpenAI’s GPT API and uses Opera’s Composer architecture to provide real-time web results. “As an expert in both web navigation and browser functions, Aria facilitates AI collaboration in tasks such as information retrieval, text or code generation, and product queries,” Opera’s Ksenia Sycheva wrote in a company release today.
Using the AI bot requires an Opera account, but by default no one is registered. “You have the independent freedom to choose based on whether you want to use artificial intelligence services,” the company wrote. “When activated, Aria delivers intelligent insights, innovative ideas and responsive voice commands.” As TechCrunch points out, Aria is available from the Opera iOS app’s “more” menu (bottom right tab).
In addition to the chatbot, Opera for iOS includes a built-in ad blocker and supports Apple Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which limits cross-site tracking. The browser also has a built-in VPN service that you can use for free. The updated Aria app is available today in 180 countries, including the United States and the European Union.
